Meet Alaska Notary Eligibility Requirements

To become a notary in Alaska, you must be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, reside in Alaska or have a principal place of business in the state, and have no felony convictions.

Complete the Alaska Notary Public Application

Applicants must complete the official Alaska Notary Public application through the Alaska Lieutenant Governor’s Office. The application requires personal information, employment details, and signatures from references.

Obtain a Notary Bond

Alaska requires all notary applicants to secure a $2,500 notary bond. This bond protects the public in case of financial loss due to notarial misconduct.

Submit Your Application, Bond, and Fee

Once the application is completed and the notary bond is obtained, applicants must submit all required documents along with the state application fee to the Alaska Lieutenant Governor’s Office.

Receive Your Notary Commission Certificate

After the application is approved, the Alaska Lieutenant Governor’s Office will issue an official Notary Commission Certificate, authorizing the applicant to perform notarial duties in the state.

Purchase a Notary Seal and Journal

Alaska notaries must obtain an official notary seal or stamp that meets state requirements. A notary journal is not legally required but is strongly recommended for keeping records of all notarizations performed.

Take the Oath of Office

Before performing notarial duties, all Alaska notaries must take an Oath of Office, affirming their commitment to following the laws and ethical standards of the profession.
