Confirm You Qualify

Make sure you meet Colorado’s notary requirements. You must be at least 18, lawfully present in the U.S., live in Colorado or have a place of work or practice in Colorado, be able to read and write English, and meet the state’s eligibility rules.

Take the NPA State-Approved Colorado Notary Course

Complete the Notary Public Association Colorado state-approved notary training course and save your training certificate. Your training certificate must be issued within the last 90 days when you apply.

Pass the Colorado Notary Exam

Take and pass the required Colorado notary exam, then save your exam certificate. Your exam certificate must also be issued within the last 90 days when you submit your application. Colorado does not require a surety bond for a regular notary commission.

Submit Your Online Application and Fee

Apply online through the Colorado Secretary of State and upload your notarized Affirmation, your ID, your training certificate, and your exam certificate. The application fee is $10.

Receive Your Commission and Get Your Supplies

Once your application is approved, print your Notary Commission Certificate and obtain your official stamp and notary journal before performing notarial acts.
