Meet Minnesota Notary Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident, and either a Minnesota resident or a bordering state resident working in Minnesota.

Submit a Notary Application to the Minnesota Secretary of State

Complete and submit the online notary application through the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.

Pay the Application Fee

A $120 non-refundable application fee must be paid at the time of submission.

Obtain an Official Notary Seal

Purchase a Minnesota-compliant notary seal or stamp that includes your name, "Notary Public," "State of Minnesota," and commission expiration date.

Register Your Commission with the County Recorder

After receiving your commission, register it with the county recorder’s office in the county where you reside. A small filing fee may apply.

Purchase a Notary Journal (Recommended)

A notary journal is not required in Minnesota but is highly recommended for keeping accurate records of notarizations.
