Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident, and either a Minnesota resident or a bordering state resident working in Minnesota.
Complete and submit the online notary application through the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
A $120 non-refundable application fee must be paid at the time of submission.
Purchase a Minnesota-compliant notary seal or stamp that includes your name, "Notary Public," "State of Minnesota," and commission expiration date.
After receiving your commission, register it with the county recorder’s office in the county where you reside. A small filing fee may apply.
A notary journal is not required in Minnesota but is highly recommended for keeping accurate records of notarizations.
