Take the NPA Missouri State-Approved Notary Course

Complete the NPA State-Approved Missouri Notary Course and download your Certificate of Completion. Missouri requires proof of state-approved notary training (or the completed written training course form) as part of the application process.

Meet the Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you qualify to be commissioned: you must be at least 18, legally reside in the United States, be able to read and write English, and either live in Missouri or have a regular place of work/business in Missouri (non-residents may qualify if they work in Missouri and will use the commission for Missouri work).

Submit Your Application and Fee

Apply online or by mail and pay the $25 application fee. Include your state-approved training certificate (or your completed written training course form) and any supporting documents required based on your application answers.

Qualify With Your County Clerk (Oath + Bond)

If your application is accepted, follow the commissioning instructions. You’ll complete your oath of office with your county clerk (or designee) and provide a $10,000 surety bond from a licensed Missouri surety (covering the full 4-year term), then submit the required items back to the Secretary of State as directed.

Purchase Required Notary Supplies

Obtain a compliant Missouri notary seal from a registered manufacturer (it must include required elements like your commissioned name, jurisdiction/county, commission number, and expiration date). You must also keep a permanently bound journal with numbered pages and retain it for at least 10 years from the date of the last entry.
