Once submitted, commissions are typically issued within 2–4 weeks.
To qualify, you must:
Be 18+ years old
Be a Nevada resident or a resident of a bordering state employed or doing business in Nevada
Have civil rights intact; felonies disqualify unless rights are restored
Read and write English
Never have had a notary commission revoked
All applicants must complete the 3-hour online training course and pass the exam administered by the Nevada Secretary of State.
Purchase a $10,000 surety bond from a licensed provider
File the bond and take your oath at your county clerk’s office; you’ll receive a filing notice

Upload your signed application, filing notice, training certificate, and bond
Pay the following fees:
$35 state application fee
$45 training and exam fee
County filing fee (typically $20)
Once complete, processing begins.
After approval, you’ll receive your Certificate of Appointment. Then purchase a seal or stamp (no larger than 1” x 2.5”) that includes your name, “Notary Public, State of Nevada,” expiration date, commission number, and “Nonresident” if applicable. Also purchase a journal for recording notarial acts.
Nevada allows electronic notarizations. To register as an eNotary, you must:
Hold a current traditional commission
Take additional eNotary training and pass the eNotary exam
Submit an electronic seal and signature exemplar
Pay a $50 registration fee via SilverFlume
Before your four-year commission expires:
Retake the required training course and exam
Obtain a new $10,000 bond
File the bond and oath, and obtain a new filing notice
Complete your renewal through SilverFlume, including all applicable fees
Purchase a new notary seal with the updated expiration date
