Our Vermont Notary Training Course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to perform notarial acts confidently and accurately. Learn Vermont-specific laws, procedures, and best practices to ensure lawful and effective notarizations. This course does not satisfy any official state education or renewal requirements.
To qualify, you must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident, and live or work in Vermont. You must not be disqualified under 26 V.S.A. § 5342, which covers criminal offenses or unprofessional conduct history.
All applications must be submitted online through the Vermont Secretary of State’s website. You must fully complete all required sections, make required attestations, and pay the non-refundable application fee in full.
Unless exempt, you must pass a notary exam approved by the Office of Professional Regulation. The exam tests your knowledge of Vermont notary laws, administrative rules, and ethical duties under Chapter 103.
You are required to execute and submit a notarized oath of office as part of your application. Your name and signature on the oath must exactly match what you'll use when performing notarial acts in Vermont.
Once your application is approved, you will receive your notary commission with an official commission number and expiration date. You may begin performing notarial acts as soon as your commission is active.
While not required, keeping a notary journal is strongly recommended to record notarizations and provide legal protection in case of disputes.
